Searching for Truth in Bregeda Art

in News / by sinitsin
March 4, 2016

Throughout history, people have studied the biblical message in search of wisdom, meaning and truth. There are far more questions than answers which is perhaps why we continue on our pursuit to gain understanding.

Victor channels this quest in much of his art. There are many hidden elements that he uses to depict our quest in knowledge attainment. There are two paintings in particular that showcase these feelings in a most eloquent approach.

The first artwork is called, “In Search of Truth.” It is a remarkable, visual story that portrays a human’s pursuit of answers to eternal questions – What is truth? Where can it be found?

Bregeda sets the stage as an abstract landscape of books, representing the sum of all knowledge. We observe several men on a philosophical mission to study the infinite texts. Can truth be found in the knowledge?

We see several ladders that are Bregeda’s symbols of both mental and spiritual growth. You will see these in much of his work. In this painting, Bregeda steps away from his traditional depiction of God the Father and introduces us to the luminescent image of God’s presence – the face of Truth.

This painting denotes the same journey that Victor has traveled over his lifetime. This has led him to the creation of many profound artworks, in reflection of his faith.

The next artwork is appropriately titled, “Ever Learning.” The full title of this painting comes from 2 Timothy 3:7 “Always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

People have relied upon biblical text to show them the way. However, many have missed the essence of the teaching – salvation through Christ. The artist, with an easel, is the only one who sees the image of the Savior, while everyone else remains hopelessly lost.

The bread and wine composition, commonly found in many of Bregeda’s faith-inspired paintings, is a depiction of Communion with the Lord. The face of Christ is masked along the edges of the biblical texts. Three beautiful roses, accompanied by an angel, have taken place of the crown of thorns. We again spot the ladders that signify the continued pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

Searching for deeper meaning and truth has been an ongoing pursuit throughout history. It is apparent that we still have a long way to go on our voyage of greater understanding. But it is a wonderful treat to watch as part of the journey unfolds in Victor’s artwork.
