Often times, words can be so vivid that just by reading them, our imaginations make way for the story to come to life. In this painting, Victor is able to capture this phenomenon.
There are multiple elements to this composition. You see the hands pointing at different words upon the page. Perhaps, this is done to signify the most captivating themes presented in the book. If you look closely, you can even see the face of a man that is forming from the fog that is rising from the pages. Has the author’s depiction been so detailed that a character has been able to present himself in three-dimensional form?
In true Bregeda fashion, we also see a ladder that is leading us up the side of the book, suggesting the knowledge and growth that comes from processing information.
