In this meta-realistic landscape, Victor uses the butterfly to embody the human soul. Toward the center of the painting, we see a ladder-Victor’s symbol for spiritual growth. The top of the ladder touches the hand of God, shown turning the pages in the book of life. From the book, emanate flowers have formed from butterflies, representing souls which have been united with the Lord.
On the bottom right, a small caterpillar is shown. . She is only beginning her spiritual journey. One day, she will be touched by the hand of God and will be transformed to a new creation.
