This particular painting reflects many characteristics as those seen in Eucharist IV.
In Catching Fire, we see figures attempting to channel the bright energy that is exuded from the illuminated candle. The characters attempt to reach the source by long sticks, in hopes of gaining light from this luminescent candle. They will need it in their quest for knowledge and enlightenment-as symbolized by the present books. They are drawn to its magnitude and wish to harbor it as their own. After all, knowledge is power.

So the proverb goes…
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
Victor has used his talent to encapsulate this powerful concept in this artwork. The fish is the forefront to the story in which he plays the object that this family’s home is built from. We see a father and son admiring their home and the all of the fortune and abundances they have been granted through hard work and perseverance.

Often times, words can be so vivid that just by reading them, our imaginations make way for the story to come to life. In this painting, Victor is able to capture this phenomenon.
There are multiple elements to this composition. You see the hands pointing at different words upon the page. Perhaps, this is done to signify the most captivating themes presented in the book. If you look closely, you can even see the face of a man that is forming from the fog that is rising from the pages. Has the author’s depiction been so detailed that a character has been able to present himself in three-dimensional form?
In true Bregeda fashion, we also see a ladder that is leading us up the side of the book, suggesting the knowledge and growth that comes from processing information.
The best feeling is to know that this emotion can be channeled in many forms of art. They are triggers that inspire our imaginations to break free. What an incredible experience.

But then, our character sets out to break free from his routine. The windmill in the background promotes the winds of change. While the face hidden amongst the clouds, represents a simpler time-perhaps when our character was a young boy.
He refuses to remain stagnant another moment, like the sailors left drifting in the waters below him.

Victor Bregeda insists that Homecoming is an open-ended story that should be interpreted in light of individual, life experiences. Bregeda brings forth the decorations of a life’s journey but invites the viewer to fill the gaps.
The weary traveler is making his way home as his awaiting cats anticipate his arrival upon the dock. He is welcome here.
The rigid cliffs mark life milestones with temporary dwellings resting upon their summits. The figures in the sky represent past relationships and the different people who have shaped a person’s life. The crescent moon suggests the change of day. Although, it is unclear whether it is rising or setting.
Homecoming is a place of rest and refuge from life’s long voyage. It is here that we find the warmth of reunion with beloved friends and family.
