Over the years, Victor Bregeda has created a number of wonderful, romantic artworks that explore different aspects of a relationship between a man and a woman. This is an intriguing painting that continues the Bregeda tradition in an attempt to answer the ongoing debate of What Women Want…

The central element of the composition is the apple with a woman’s face formed out of a bite. The apple symbolizes knowledge based on the Biblical tradition for the fruit of knowledge. The face signifies the mysterious feminine nature. Combined together, the apple and the face, represent the complexity of understanding a woman.

The men in the picture are waiting in line to get their answers. They desperately try to dialog with the woman, craving to know what is on her mind, but instead are only left with more questions.

The candle stick balances the visual objects of the painting and adds fragility by its positioning upon the edge of the table. The small image of the woman, built from the wax of the candle, serves as the emotional amplifier for the men leaving the scene.

What Women Want is an eloquent, visual expression of the eternal question that may never be answered…
